I'm Offended

Friends, I am offended.  I'm offended that some stores are labeling Christmas trees as "holiday trees".  In my house, we don't have a holiday tree.  We have a Christmas tree.  We don't celebrate "the holidays".  We celebrate Christmas.  We celebrate the birth of Christ.  Yes, I know that Jesus probably wasn't born in December, but December is the month that has been set aside to celebrate His birth anyway, and December is the month that we will recognize it.

Christmas, by its very definition, is a Christian holiday.  Let's keep it that way, folks.  Do not give in to those who want to take Jesus out of Christmas.  Do not give in and call it "Holiday".   In the very revered name of tolerance itself, for once, let others tolerate us.  I'm not asking the Muslims to sanitize Ramadan.  I'm not calling for the Jews to stop celebrating Chanukah.  I'm not even asking the atheists to stop celebrating... well... whatever it is that they celebrate.

In fact, no one at all is asking for these other religions to cleanse their holy days.  Why then, are they trying to cleanse ours?  Do not let it happen.  Do not give in.  Do not use the term "Holiday" with a capital H.   I myself have begun saying "Merry Christmas" with cheer to all those that I meet during the season.  Jew, atheist, Muslim, Hindi; they will all be greeted with a heartfelt "Merry Christmas."  If they choose to return the greeting with their own good holiday wishes, I will thank them and go on my way.  But I will not participate in the sanitizing of Christmas for anyone.

And so, here I sit, offended that Christians are not tolerated.  Who will come to my defense?  Oh liberals, where are you now?  Will you not speak out for me and my right to celebrate my chosen holiday?  Or is your tolerance really not tolerance at all?  Is it a bigoted, prejudiced tolerance that has no room for those that love Christ and choose to celebrate His birth?

In my house, on Christmas Eve, my living room will be darkened, lit only by the colored glow of the lights on my Christmas tree.  For as long as I and my family walk this earth, each year we will mark the birth of Christ and celebrate Christmas.
