Update on the Jim Zumbo situation

   February 22nd, 2007 - 12:19 PM

From Tednugent.com - Story  (Submitted by Sean Jeffries) (0 Comments)

Jim Zumbo is posting on Ted Nugent's message board, and has issued a clearer and better stated apology for his previous anti-AR15 statements. I personally have accepted Mr. Zumbo's apology with the following words:

I accept Mr. Zumbo's apology. Like everyone else here, I was angry and upset at the initial blog post. It was incredibly shortsighted and damaging to our cause, and I was shocked to see something like this coming from Zumbo. The choice of the word "terrorist" was one of the most dismaying things to me.
With my AR-15s, more of my non-hunting and non-gun owner friends have gotten excited about shooting than they ever did when I took them to the range to shoot shotguns and .22s. Ban them? Never.

Ted's words on the subject calmed me because I trust him to do what's right for hunting and guns. I don't for one minute think that Ted's perfect; there's only been one perfect person in history, and they crucified him. But I trust Ted completely when it comes to our gun rights.

I'm sorry to see the complete destruction of Mr. Zumbo's career. He is, after all, one of our own. I don't like destroying one of our own, especially when it is done so quickly after the incident. We called upon his sponsors for his destruction, and they answered our cries. I wish we'd see more of this kind of outrage directed to things like HR-1022.

Zumbo's blog demanded outrage, and if he had stuck to his guns, so to speak, his destruction would have been warranted. He didn't, and no matter how weak the initial apology may have seemed, I think it should have been enough to allow us to pull back a little bit and take more of a wait-and-see attitude.

I've waited and I've seen, and I'm satisified with his apology. I'd like to see him go full bore into promoting all aspects of the 2nd amendment now and am hoping that this is how he will proceed.

Democrats are already at it... Watch this video!

   February 21st, 2007 - 6:17 AM

From You-Tube - Story  (Submitted by Sean Jeffries) (0 Comments)

Well, it didn't take long. House Democrats have introduced HR-1022, the reintroduction of the "assault rifle" ban. Most Democrats that I have spoken to can not even define an assault rifle, nor do they really have any true understanding of what they are talking about when discussing them. This video is an extremely well-done 10 minute demonstration of how the media has misunderstood and misconstrued "assault rifles".

Contact your representatives and let them know you oppose HR 1022, and get the word out to your Democratic friends and relatives that they are being misled by the media about "assault rifles".

The fall of Jim Zumbo

   February 19th, 2007 - 6:51 PM

Wingshooters Exclusive  (Submitted by Sean Jeffries) (0 Comments)

I was pretty busy this past weekend and didn't get to spend much time on the web. Looks like I missed a tragedy in the hunting world. Jim Zumbo, probably the best known elk hunting expert in the world, has fallen. In an article posted in his online web log, Mr. Zumbo got down on AR-15 rifles and their owners.

Not only did he get down on them, he went so far as to call the rifles "terrorist rifles." He said that no one hunts with them, and that they have no place in the hunting world.

This kind of divisive statement is exactly what will give the anti-hunters the opening that they need in their efforts to derail hunting. Within hours of his post, Jumbo's sponsors were dropping him. Rumours are flying that Remington is going to sever ties with him. Others are following.

Ted Nugent called Zumbo and set him straight, and from this call Zumbo apologized for his statements and withdrew his comments. The damage, however, has been done.

Zumbo's original post is here:

Merry Christmas from Wingshooters.net

Wingshooters Exclusive  (Submitted by Sean Jeffries) (0 Comments)

And it came to pass in those days, that there went out a decree from Caesar Augustus that all the world should be taxed. (And this taxing was first made when Cyrenius was governor of Syria.) And all went to be taxed, every one into his own city.

And Joseph also went up from Galilee, out of the city of Nazareth, into Judaea, unto the city of David, which is called Bethlehem; (because he was of the house and lineage of David) to be taxed with Mary his espoused wife, being great with child.

And so it was, that, while they were there, the days were accomplished that she should be delivered. And she brought forth her firstborn son, and wrapped him in swaddling clothes, and laid him in a manger; because there was no room for them in the inn.

And there were in the same country shepherds abiding in the field, keeping watch over their flock by night. And, lo, the angel of the Lord came upon them, and the glory of the Lord shone round about them: and they were sore afraid. And the angel said unto them, Fear not: for, behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy, which shall be to all people. For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Saviour, which is Christ the Lord.

And this shall be a sign unto you; Ye shall find the babe wrapped in swaddling clothes, lying in a manger. And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God, and saying, Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, good will toward men.

Hunters credited with the recovery of the ivory billed woodpecker

   December 13th, 2005 - 7:20 PM

From CNN - Story  (Submitted by Sean Jeffries) (0 Comments)

The article linked at CNN is some great publicity for hunters. It basically gushes over how our duck stamp money and other conservation efforts have saved the once-thought extinct bird. This is just proof of what we Sportsmen already knew: the hunter is the environment's best friend.

Victory in Louisiana Gun Confiscations

   September 23rd, 2005 - 9:00 PM

From The NRA ILA - Story  (Submitted by Sean Jeffries) (0 Comments)

The NRA's lawsuit to halt gun seizures in Louisiana has been successful. This is an absolutely huge victory for gun owners. Even in times of emergency, officals MAY NOT confiscate guns from lawful owners. It's times like this when those gun owners need their weapons to protect themselves and their property from criminals. If you own a gun and are not a member of the NRA, this is just another example of why it is critical that you join.

Although it may seem a bit late, the NRA and the SAF have filed a motion in Federal court to stop arbitrary gun seizures in New Orleans. These illegal seizures are a direct attack on the Second Amendment and must be halted immediately.

Sportsmen, get your pens and paper out and start writing letters. Start making phone calls. It is urgent that you contact your Representatives to let them know that we do not support this bill. Reference House Resolution 3442 when you talk to your Representative, and tell him or her to say NO.

Indiana bans high fence deer hunting

   August 12th, 2005 - 3:34 PM

From Fort Wayne Journal Gazette - Story  (Submitted by Sean Jeffries) (0 Comments)

In a move that greatly pleased the anti-hunting crowd, Indiana has banned deer hunting in high fence enclosures. This is a prime example of where we as sportsmen need to put aside our differences on issues like this and join forces to prevent the banning of our various forms of hunting. Make phone calls, write letters! Let the Indiana government know that we won't stand for this!

Senate 397 passes and moves to House

   July 30th, 2005 - 9:13 AM

Wingshooters Exclusive  (Submitted by Sean Jeffries) (0 Comments)

Senate Bill 397 has passed, and now moves on to the House. The bill prevents lawsuits against gun manufacturers when their products are used in crimes. This is the good news. The bad news is that an amendment passed that requires handgun manufacturers to include trigger locks with all guns. As this itself is a gun control law, we're against this part. Perhaps the House will strip this amendment from the bill... we'll see what happens with Congress reconvenes in September.

PETA workers charged with animal cruelty

   June 17th, 2005 - 9:27 AM

From WAVY TV News Site - Story  (Submitted by Sean Jeffries) (0 Comments)

The story linked above says enough. PETA is guilty once again of killing dogs and cats that they were supposed to be finding homes for. I still don't understand how anyone can take these domestic terrorists seriously. In fact, PETA killed over 6,000 animals in 2002-2003.

FBI Report debunks predictions about assault weapon ban sunset

   June 8th, 2005 - 1:43 PM

From US Newswire - Story  (Submitted by Sean Jeffries) (0 Comments)

This report debunks fears that crime would rise with last year's sunset of the 1994 assault weapon ban. Homicides declined over 5% last year. As anyone who has done any real research understands, these "scary looking" weapons are rarely used in crimes.

Florida passes self defense bill

   April 7th, 2005 - 6:37 PM

From CNN - Story  (Submitted by Sean Jeffries) (0 Comments)

Great news for Florida residents. You no longer have a "duty to retreat" when threatened outside of your home. This law should make criminals think twice about their activities. Just as concealed carry laws lowered the amount of crime across those states that allow it, this one should make Florida that much safer for its law abiding citizens.
